Description
According to tradition, Constantine had a vision of this symbol, accompanied by the command, “Conquer by this.” Following a visitation by Christ that night, Constantine instructed his soldiers to paint the symbol on their shields. The ensuing military victory gave him control of the Roman Empire. Based on the first two letters of ‘Christ’ in Greek, the Chi Rho then crowned all of Constantine’s military standards and banners.
In the background, Ephesians 6:12-16 (Greek) reminds us that our real battle in this world is not against flesh and blood, but against forces of spiritual evil. And God gives us armor to fight and win the battle.
